Tooth colored restorations.....
In the past, dentists used gold and silver restorations to repair decayed teeth. While gold is still the #1 restorative material in terms of longevity, it’s yellow color is often objectionable. Now we are able to provide restorations that are tooth colored. For very small restorations, we use a tooth colored composite material that is bonded to the tooth. For larger restorations that require more strength, we are now able to remove the decay and prepare the tooth for a partial coverage inlay/onlay, that removes only the damaged tooth structure not the whole tooth. In the past, we would then take an impression, make a temporary, and have the patient come back in two weeks for cementation of the inlay/onlay. Now we can take an optical three dimensional picture of the prepared tooth with our CEREC machine and design the crown on the computer and have your onlay milled out of block of porcelain in under 30 minutes and then cement your onlay the same day before you leave.
